Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam Approves the Proposal by Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee on the Implementation of the Ngoc Linh Ginseng (Vietnamese Ginseng) Conservation and Development Project until 2030
Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam has agreed with the proposal of the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee regarding the necessity of implementing the Project for the Conservation and Development of Ngoc Linh Ginseng (Vietnamese Ginseng) until 2030, with the aim of preserving this valuable genetic resource, integrating forest protection and development, and contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the province’s economically disadvantaged areas.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested that the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee select, categorize, and prioritize projects under the plan that will use state budget funds, and include them in the province’s medium-term public investment plan. Priority should be given to essential projects that cannot be socially mobilized. The list is to be submitted to the Ministry of Planning and Investment for appraisal in accordance with regulations.
The Ministries of Health; Agriculture and Rural Development; Industry and Trade; Science and Technology; and Natural Resources and Environment are assigned to support and guide Quang Nam Province in finalizing and implementing the Project based on their respective functions and responsibilities.
According to the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee, Ngoc Linh Ginseng is a unique medicinal plant species currently found only in a limited ecological area — under the canopy of primary forests surrounding Mount Ngoc Linh, within the territories of Nam Trà My District (Quang Nam Province) and Đắk Glei and Tu Mơ Rông Districts (Kon Tum Province).
The optimal growing and development zone for Ngoc Linh Ginseng lies entirely along the Ngoc Linh mountain range, at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 2,600 meters above sea level.
For many years, local people have used Ngoc Linh Ginseng as a traditional remedy to restore health, enhance physical strength, stop bleeding, treat snake bites, diarrhea, and stomach pain.
Ngoc Linh Ginseng is recognized as one of the four most precious ginseng species in the world (alongside American Ginseng, Korean Ginseng, and North Korean Ginseng). Both domestic and international scientists and specialists have highly valued it — not only for its economic potential but also for its exceptional medicinal and health-boosting properties.
According to the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee, Ngoc Linh Ginseng currently has a very high economic value, ranging from 20 to 50 million VND per kilogram, depending on the plant’s age. Market demand continues to rise — not only domestically but also from international markets.
In recent years, Quang Nam Province has made significant efforts and annual budget allocations to promote the cultivation and development of Ngoc Linh Ginseng.
Currently, several facilities are implementing conservation and development programs for Ngoc Linh Ginseng, including:

Tắk Ngo Ginseng Nursery (Hamlet 2, Trà Linh Commune), managed by Nam Trà My District, with over 20,000 two-year-old ginseng plants;

Trà Linh Medicinal Plant Station, managed by the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee, covering a total area of 7.127 hectares with 167,658 ginseng plants of various ages.
